Rheumatic Heart Disease

Rheumatic heart disease remains a major cardiovascular burden in low- and middle-income countries. Sessions cover acute rheumatic fever prevention, echocardiographic screening of children and adolescents, secondary penicillin prophylaxis programmes, advanced valvular disease management including balloon valvuloplasty and surgical repair, and the global health response. Discussion includes the WHO Rheumatic Heart Disease resolution implementation, vaccine development and equitable access to surgery.
