Sessions/ Tracks

Track 1: Heart Diseases

The term “Heart disease” constitutes a number of problems, most of which are in relation to a process called atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a condition that occurs when a substance called plaque builds up in the arteries’ walls. This build-up reduces the width of the arteries, making it difficult for blood to flow through. If a blood clot occurs, it can cease the blood flow. This can result in a heart attack or stroke. Some heart defects also exist in individuals due to birth defects.

Cardiovascular disease and nutrition, Coronary artery disease, Cardiomyopathies, Silent ischemia, Angina, Heart attack (myocardial infarction), Heart failure, Atherosclerosis: Risk factors and prevention, Arrhythmia, Infective endocarditis, Peripheral arterial disease, Obesity and heart disease, Congenital heart disease, Grown-up congenital heart disease, Blood related disorders: Thrombosis.

Track  3: Hypertension

High blood pressure is also called hypertension & it is a serious medical condition. It happens when the force of the blood pumping through your arteries is too strong. Blood pressure is the force exerted by the blood against the blood vessel walls, and the magnitude of this force only depends on the cardiac output and the resistance of the blood vessels. The high blood pressure usually does not cause any symptoms but the long-term high blood pressure, however, is a major risk factor for stroke, coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, heart failure, vision loss, and chronic kidney disease. Hypertension can strain the heart, damage blood vessels, kidney problems, and increase the risk of heart attack.

Track 12: Myocardial and Pericardial Disease

Damage to the heart muscle most often develops from coronary artery disease (CAD) related myocardial infarction, usually in people in their middle or later decades. Inherited forms of heart muscle disease (Cardiomyopathies) are the most prominent cause of myocardial disease in the young. Myocardial infarction and cardiomyopathies are the major causes of heart failure and arrhythmic sudden death.

Pericardial disease or pericarditis is an inflammation of the pericardium. Pericarditis is characterized by pericardial friction rub (an audible sound of rubbing heard along with the heartbeat), chest pain and changes in an electrocardiogram (ECG, test to evaluate the heart function). It is seen more commonly in men than in women. Chronic pericarditis may occur due to the recurrence of acute pericarditis or due to a chronic infection such as tuberculosis.

Track 13: Cardiac Arrhythmias

An arrhythmia is a problem with the rate or rhythm heartbeat. It means that heart beats too quickly, too slowly, or with an irregular pattern. Many factors can affect heart's rhythm, such as having had a heart attack, smoking, congenital heart defects, and stress. Some substances or medicines may also cause Arrhythmias. There are four main types of arrhythmia: extra beats, supraventricular tachycardias, ventricular arrhythmias, and bradyarrhythmias Most arrhythmias can be effectively treated. Treatments may include medications, medical procedures such as a pacemaker, and surgery. Medications for a fast heart rate may include beta blockers or agents that attempt to restore a normal heart rhythm such as procainamide.

Track 14: Diabetes, Obesity & Stroke

Obesity increases the risk for heart disease and stroke. But it harms more than just the heart and blood vessel system. It's also a major cause of gallstones, osteoarthritis, and respiratory problems. Obesity is intimately intertwined with multiple health conditions that underlie cardiovascular disease including high blood pressure, diabetes, and abnormal blood cholesterol. In addition, weight gain is a frequent consequence of heart-damaging lifestyle choices such as lack of exercise and a fat-laden diet. Obesity also can lead to heart failure. This is a serious condition in which your heart can't pump enough blood to meet your body's needs. Having diabetes or pre-diabetes puts one at increased risk for heart disease and stroke. One can lower its risk by keeping the blood glucose (also called blood sugar), blood pressure, and blood cholesterol close to the recommended target numbers—the levels suggested by diabetes experts for good health. Stroke and coronary heart disease can be caused by the same problem.

Track 15: Stem Cell Research on Cardiology

An innovative therapeutic approach is the use of cell therapy to counteract reverse ventricular remodeling, the substrate of heart failure and arrhythmias following myocardial infarction. Advantageous cell tissue regeneration combines a complex cellular and molecular advent setting that includes stem cell grafting and differentiation, secretion of anti-inflammatory and angiogenic mediators, and proliferation of endogenous cardiac stem cells. Recent therapeutic approaches involve adipose-derived stem cells, heart-derived stem cells, bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells and mesenchymal stem cells, and combinations of cells. Clinical trials using mesenchymal stem cells and cardiac-derived stem cells have been shown to be effective in reducing infarct size and improving the contractility of regional walls.

Track 16: Veterinary Cardiology

A veterinary cardiologist is a specialist that has advanced training in the heart and circulatory system. Veterinary Cardiology generally deals with the study and treatment of disease condition of a cardiovascular system in cats and dogs blood vessels. To become a board-certified veterinary cardiologist a veterinarian usually completes a one-year internship followed by extensive specialized training in an approved residency training program. The heart problems may include canine and feline congestive heart failure, hypertension, dilated and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and valvular disorders. Due to the interrelation in the function of pet's heart and lungs, veterinary cardiologists are also knowledgeable about lung diseases as well as diseases of the chest cavity.

Track 17: Epidemiology and Cardiovascular Disease

Cardiovascular the study of disease transmission is gone up against by a dualism: remarkable open doors for new research bearings in the midst of a developing vulnerability about its potential esteem and a strain to accomplish progressively and be more responsible. Moreover, the thought that a lot of epidemiological research brings about false-positive discoveries has picked up momentum,7 subsequently increasing current standards for both examination quality and the need for replication as a sine qua non for all future epidemiological examinations. In general, thought pioneers have underscored the significance of consequential8 and translational epidemiology9 in the decades ahead for the science to stay pertinent despite more noteworthy desires that epidemiological research must influence general wellbeing all the more straightforwardly.

Track 19: Cardiac Electrophysiology

Cardiac electrophysiology is the science deals with elucidating, diagnosing, and treating the electrical activities of the heart. The term is used to describe studies of such phenomena by invasive (intracardiac) catheter recording of spontaneous activity as well as of cardiac responses to programmed electrical stimulation (PES). These studies are performed to assess complex arrhythmias, elucidate symptoms, evaluate abnormal electrocardiograms, assess the risk of developing arrhythmias in the future, and design treatment. These procedures mainly include therapeutic methods (typically radiofrequency ablation, or cryoablation) in addition to diagnostic and prognostic procedures. Other therapeutic modalities employed in this field include antiarrhythmic drug therapy and implantation of pacemakers and automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (AICD).
